We are going to say up front that Reel Gems Deluxe is a reskin of Goldaur Guardians. Both the math model and the features are exactly the same, but this time Alchemy has made a classic looking gemstone slot which might suit a different player segment. The visual presentation feels a bit uninspired to be honest, and you can sense that they put more effort into the original game. This is how it usually is with reskins, but the mechanics and features are still quite entertaining. It all boils down to personal preference of which theme you like best, and it’s too bad that Alchemy didn’t take this opportunity to offer a more decent potential.
The game logo is the wild symbol here, and this means it will step in for all regular symbols to help you form winning combos. It also pays 100x for 5 on a payline. The Hyperspins feature allows you to respin each reel individually and indefinitely. How much each respin cost is calculated depending on what you stand to win.
Naturally, the price of each respin goes up if you have already secured 2 scatters on the reels (we paid around 5x our stake in that situation, with also a wild on reel 1). You need at least 3 scatters to trigger the free spins bonus round, and you get 5, 7 or 10 spins when you land 3, 4 or 5 scatters, respectively.
Before the bonus round starts however, you will also get a scatter win of either 10x, 40x or 200x, depending on how many scatters you landed. On the left-hand side, you’ll see a symbol trail where all the gemstone premiums are included, plus the wild symbol on top. By default, you start with the lowest value blue gemstone, and stacks of this symbol becomes sticky on reels 1 and 2.
On reels 3, 4 and 5 you will land nothing but giant 3×3 symbols on every free spin. These can be mega wilds, mega gemstones or a special Retrigger symbol. Landing the latter fully in view gives you the same amount of extra spins as you got when triggering the feature. It also means that you level up to the next symbol on the trail.
This transforms the stacks on reels 1 and 2 to the upgraded symbol, and there is no upper limit as to how many extra spins you can get here. If you get to the top of the trail, you will now have wild stacks on reels 1 and 2, which can lead to payouts up to 1,000x your stake. You can still get more extra spins, even if you reach the top of the trail.
As a precursor to the bonus round, you can also get Radiant Spins randomly in the base game. A symbol is then highlighted on the trail, and stacks of it becomes sticky on reels 1 and 2. You will then get a spin with giant gems and wilds on reels 3, 4 and 5, just like in the free spins feature.
After a longer period of base game grinding, we finally landed 2 scatters. We jumped at the opportunity, and took advantage of the Hyperspins feature. It didn’t take us too many costly 5x respins before we secured the all-important third scatter, and we also managed to level up quite early in the bonus round.
