The cartoon-style gothic theme is a refreshing touch, and Boomerang has done a great job with the visual presentation in Gargoyle Infinity Reels. We also like that you’ll only ever see 3 reels on the screen at the same time, as this makes it easier to keep focus. New reels are added on the right hand side, per usual, and the leftmost reel disappears out of sight.
The base game lacks a progressive multiplier to keep things interesting though, but you get a wild symbol that can be somewhat helpful. More so in the bonus round however, where the wild will not only expand the reels, but also potentially trigger ajackpot wheelfor payoutsup to 888xyour stake. The announced21,300xpotential seems far-fetched without any multipliers, as it would require an insane amount of added reels and/or jackpots.
Thealpha Gargoyleis thewildin this game, and he will step in for all regular pay symbols to help you form winning combos. He’s also instrumental during the bonus round, as we shall see below.
The Free Spins round comes about when you land at least3 scattersin the same spin sequence. You get10 free spins, and also a scatter win of 1x your stake for the minimum of 3 scatters. You can land up to 6 scatters to win 4x your stake up front, before the bonus round plays out.
If you land the Gargoyle wild in the bonus round,1 to 3 extra reel positionsare added to the new reel. The new reel can thus be 4 to 6 rows in height. If you land a wild on a reel that’s 6 symbols in height, you trigger theJackpot Wheel feature.
AJackpot bonus wheelwill then spin, and you’ll win either3x, 4x, 5x, 20x, 50x, 100x or 888xyour stake. All reels added after a wild-expanded reel will be of the same size, until the spin sequence is finished. In other words, the reels reset to the regular 3 rows between spins.
We had some smaller initial wins during base game play, but nothing too memorable. The bonus round is triggered around 1 minute into the 4-minute highlights video, and we managed to get to the Jackpot bonus wheel. How much we won however, you will only know when you hit the play button below.
Gargoyle Infinity Reels is undoubtedly a step up from Boomerang’s Infinity debut, Crystal Wolf Infinity Reels. The massive21,300xpotential seems attractive on paper, but there is no multiplier of any kind to boost you towards such numbers. The highest paying gargoyle awards 8x for 6 on a payline, so you can imagine how many extra reels would be needed to max this thing out.
Of course, you have the Jackpot Wheel feature to help you along the way in the bonus round, but it offers “only” 888x your stake at the very most. You would need quite a few of those too, in other words. The biggest drawback of this engine is the unsatisfactory feeling of the game constantly ruining what you’re trying to build. Until a developer finds a way to bridge that mental gap, the mechanic is gonna continue to limp along as a sideshow freak more than anything else.
Pros
Cons
Crystal Wolf Infinity Reels- is Boomerang’s Infinity Reels debut slot, and you start with a 3×3 grid. This is also the first Infinity Reels title with a Hold & Respins bonus round, and a special paw symbol will increase the progressive multiplier with +1.
Thor Infinity Reels- is a powerful norse mythology title from the inventors of the engine, and it comes with a progressive multiplier also during base game play. A 12 added reels jackpot of 888x can be landed, and the Streak Respins bonus round comes with jackpots up to 2,000x your stake.
Emerald’s Infinity Reels- is the first Irish Luck-themed game with this engine, and you can look forward to a unique symbol collect respins feature. Winning symbols are collected as they move off the grid, and the collected symbols don’t reset in the bonus round. 2x multipliers makes payouts up to 10,000x possible.
