Most people are familiar with the myth of Medusa, the fearsome woman with serpentine hair who could turn men into stone with just a glance. However, Greek mythology enthusiasts know that Medusa wasn’t the only one with this power; she had two sisters, Stheno and Euryale, collectively known as Gorgons. The Golden Gorgon game merges this myth with that of King Midas, featuring a Gorgon who can turn winning symbols into sticky golden versions of themselves, triggering a respin and locking in place the winning symbols. The aim is to fill the screen with symbols to gain the highest possible 5x multiplier.

This feature, dubbed Gorgon’s Gaze, activates whenever at least three matching symbols land on a payline. The symbols transform into golden sticky versions of themselves, triggering a respin. If new matching symbols appear, they also turn sticky and trigger another respin. This continues as long as the initial winning combo is improved. Filling a whole reel with golden symbols during the Respins feature activates a Multiplier feature. However, the reels must be filled from left to right, and the multiplier equals the number of reels filled. For instance, filling reels 1, 2, and 3 gives a 3x multiplier, while filling all 5 reels yields a maximum 5x multiplier.

Despite Yggdrasil’s focus on expanding their Masters YGS program, Golden Gorgon seems somewhat uninspired, mimicking the work of an apprentice studio. The Ancient Greek theme is far from unique, and it’s executed in a rather generic manner here. Considering the developer’s potential, this release is somewhat disappointing. However, the game does offer a potential 2,500x payout, which seems achievable for a simple game like this. The Gorgon’s Gaze Respin feature is primarily activated with low-value symbols and can be entertaining, possibly keeping some players engaged for some time.
