The top-tier symbol in Liga Fortuna Megaways is obviously based on the legendary Messi, who recently won the Fifa World Cup with Argentina, but his jersey indicates that he still plays for Barcelona (which is not really the case). He plays together with Mbappe (which follows the Messi-lookalike in the paytable) in Paris Saint Germain, and the third footballer looks like David Silva. You get to see them do some tricks with the ball when part of a win, and wilds are there to help you out on the dynamic Megaways grid.
There are no other base game features to talk about, and the Mini Slot Multiplier system from Onplay’s previous Megaways releases are not included this time. Instead, you get a bonus round for the first time since they started with the licensed dynamic grid engine, and it comes with sticky wilds. The3,437x potentialis way below average for this engine, and also way below what you get in their previous non-bonus round Megaways installments. Liga Fortuna Megaways is a mediocre effort at best, and the 95.1 % RTP is well below par as well.
The 3 football player premium symbols, with the Messi lookalike as the top-tier symbol, pay 3, 4, or 5 x your stake for 6 of a kind wins, and you win by landing 3 to 6 matching symbols on adjacent reels from the uttermost left to the right. The reels come with up to 6 symbols each, thanks to the dynamic grid system, and this can give youup to 46,656 ways to win(called Megaways).
You can landWild symbolson reels 2, 3, 4, and 5 only, and it comes in the form of a golden football. The wild does not hold any value of its own, but instead it steps in for pay symbols to help complete and/or improve wins.
TheBonus Roundtriggers when you land3+ trophy scattersanywhere in view, and this awards10 free spinsfor starters. All wilds that appear become sticky on the grid for the duration of the bonus round, and landing3+ scatterson the same free spin gives you+5 extra spins.
You get to see a few wins here and there in the base game, before we trigger the bonus round with 3 scatters around 0:48 into the 2-minute highlights video. The feature plays out for the remainder of the video, and we managed to rack up a few sticky wilds as well. You can check it all out for yourself by hitting the play button below.
Onlyplay has a “careful” and almost childlike approach to the Megaways license they probably paid good money to obtain. While the rest of the industry has long since engaged in an arms race to build the biggest and meanest monsters possible, Onlyplay has, after 3 barebones Megaways installments, come to the conclusion that a bonus round might be a good idea this time. They act like they’ve just discovered this powerful engine, and nobody else knows about it, which is kind of surreal in this day and age. The number of Megaways is also way below average for this engine, and there are no cascading wins.
Audiovisually, this is not very impressive, and you get no buzz from the audience even though the stadium is packed. The Mini Slot Multiplier is long gone, but this time you get a bonus round instead. It comes with sticky wilds, which is hardly the most innovative feature, and the max win is an underwhelming3,437x your stake. This is a massive step down from their previous Megaways releases, and for the record, Messi plays for Paris Saint Germain for the time being, not Barcelona. We’re glad to see a bonus round this time, sure, but we suggest that Onlyplay tries to catch up with the rest of the world for their next release.
